  • Interim Executive Director

    The Interim Compliance and Operations Manager will provide detailed oversight and leadership for Pet Allies during a 3–4 month transition period. This role focuses on ensuring full compliance with all state, federal, and local laws, as well as organizational policies and contracts. The Interim Manager will also review and update all operational procedures, ensure staff accountability, and maintain detailed records to meet the standards required by law and Pet Allies’ agreements (e.g., City of Show Low).
    This is a highly detail-oriented position requiring expertise in compliance, operations management, and policy enforcement to maintain stability and prepare the organization for the onboarding of a permanent Executive Director.

    Key Responsibilities:
    Compliance Oversight
    • Ensure the shelter and clinic adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, including animal welfare standards, employment laws, and health regulations.
    • Verify that all required logs, daily reports, and documentation are accurate, up-to-date, and filed properly.
    • Conduct internal audits of city and state-required paperwork to ensure accuracy and compliance.
    • Maintain close oversight of the City of Show Low contract, ensuring all deliverables and obligations are met.

    Policy and Procedure Enforcement
    • Review and update current organizational policies and procedures to ensure they align with legal requirements and industry best practices.
    • Train managers and staff on updated policies and ensure adherence through regular monitoring.
    • Address any gaps in procedures and implement corrective actions as needed.

    Operational Oversight
    • Supervise day-to-day shelter and clinic operations through department managers, ensuring all activities align with policies and standards.
    • Monitor and approve daily operations reports submitted by Shelter and Clinic Managers.
    • Conduct regular walkthroughs and inspections to verify compliance with policies and operational standards.

    Detailed Reporting and Communication
    • Provide comprehensive weekly reports to the board of directors, summarizing operational updates, compliance reviews, and any areas needing attention.
    • Act as the liaison between the board, staff, and city officials, ensuring consistent communication and updates.
    • Coordinate with the board on any legal, financial, or compliance-related risks that arise during the transition period.

    Leadership During Transition
    • Implement and enforce processes to maintain stability during the search for a permanent Executive Director.
    • Oversee the preparation and organization of operational materials to ensure a seamless transition for incoming leadership.
    • Build accountability within staff and volunteers to foster adherence to standards and expectations.

    Qualifications
    Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree required in business administration, nonprofit management, animal science, public administration, or related fields.
    Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in compliance management, nonprofit leadership, or animal welfare operations.
    • Strong background in regulatory compliance, audits, or contract management preferred.
    Skills:
    • Exceptional organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
    • Strong understanding of legal and regulatory requirements for animal shelters and clinics.
    • Proven ability to manage staff, enforce policies, and resolve conflicts professionally.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    Schedule
    • On-Site Presence: 3-5 days per week to ensure close oversight and leadership.
    • Duration: Defined short-term position, lasting 3–4 months.
    • Work Hours: Approximately 30-40 hours per week, with flexibility for emergencies or urgent needs.
    Compensation
    • Rate: Competitive, DOE (Depends on Experience). The position may be structured as hourly or contract-based, depending on mutual agreement between the board and the candidate.
    • Position Length: 3–4 months, with no expectation of extension unless agreed upon by the board.
